Willis calls for Kelly recommendations to be implemented in full

"The recommendations of this report must be implemented as soon as possible" said Phil Willis MP (LibDem, Harrogate & Knaresborough) commenting on the publication of Sir Christopher Kelly's review of MPs' expenses.

Phil Willis has also signed Early Day Motion 2216 "Sir Christopher Kelly’s Report" which states, "That this House calls for the implementation of all of Sir Christopher Kelly’s recommendations at the earliest possible opportunity, without amendment."

"I would urge all other members to also sign this EDM" said Phil Willis.

St Andrews Players 40th Anniversary recognised in House of Commons

Forty years after their first rehearsal the Harrogate St Andrews Players are being recognised in Parliament by a special House of Commons motion.

Coinciding with the opening of the St Andrews Players’ new production ‘Fabulous at 40’ tomorrow night, local MP Phil Willis has tabled a House of Commons motion congratulating them on four decades of inspirational work.

“St Andrews Players have been entertaining the people of this district and beyond for 40 years” said Phil Willis “and I wanted to mark that anniversary with something special.”

Calling All Budding Journalists

Phil Willis MP (LibDem, Harrogate & Knaresborough) is calling on all budding young journalists to enter the Parliamentary Press Gallery Writing Competition.

“The competition asks young people to put themselves in the position of a policy advisor to a party leader of their choice, putting forward three policies for inclusion on that party’s manifesto.” said Phil Willis, who is one of the judges.

“The next general election is not far off and this is a great opportunity to put forward ideas for inclusion in the parties’ manifestos.” he added.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Poll Results!

With the general election looming, and a change of Government looking likely, it’s encouraging to see that 61% of visitors to my website would choose Vince Cable to be the next Chancellor of the Exchequer. George Osborne lagged behind on 22%, and just 16% of voters opted for the current Chancellor, Alistair Darling.

Let’s hope that the General Election results are equally as encouraging for the Liberal Democrats!

MP Supports Healthy Hearts in Harrogate & Knaresborough

Harrogate & Knaresborough MP, Phil Willis today showed his support for a campaign to encourage the people of Harrogate and Knaresborough to lead Healthy Heart lifestyles, by undergoing his own health MOT. Phil met staff from Yorkshire’s own heart charity, Heart Research UK, at Harlow Carr today for a Healthy Heart check and advice.

Heart Research UK staff and staff from Harlow Carr showed the MP round the vegetable garden, whilst giving him some top Heart Healthy eating tips.

Phil Willis MP celebrates 1278 homes made warmer in Harrogate & Knaresborough

Phil Willis MP (LibDem, Harrogate & Knaresborough) is celebrating the work of the Warm Front Scheme in tackling fuel poverty in Harrogate and Knaresborough and is urging more residents to come forward and get help with measures that could cut their energy bills by as much as £600 a year.

Phil Willis said,
“The Warm Front Scheme helps people improve their homes’ energy efficiency and is vital in helping increasing numbers of people who are finding energy bills a heavy burden.
